Dear Parents and Guardians, Welcome to the 2010-2011 school year at P.S. 10! My name is Ms. Cohen, and I will be your child’s fifth grade teacher. I’m looking forward to an exciting, enjoyable school year. If we work together, we can make sure that this year will be a thrilling educational adventure for your child. I’m sure that we will get to know each other well in the coming weeks and months. For now, here are a few things about my class which you should know: · Homework/Reading at home – There will be homework assignments almost every night. As part of the daily homework, I expect students to read for at least 30 minutes every night. Students will bring home books from the classroom library, so they should always have something to read. Please help your child take good care of classroom library books, and make sure that he/she brings them back to school every day. If you have any questions about a homework assignment, please feel free to contact me. · Yellow Parent Folder – Your child will receive a yellow Parent Folder provided by the school. Important school information will be sent home in the yellow Parent Folder, so please be sure to check the folder every day. · Supplies – Attached to this letter you will find a list of supplies required for my class. Many supplies in the classroom are shared. If your student has special notebooks, pencils, markers, crayons or other items that he/she does not wish to share, please make sure that the student brings in additional supplies to share with the rest of the class (in addition to the personal items). Supplies are due by Monday, September 13. · Classroom Rules & Behavior – My classroom rules are very simple. Students must show respect to the teacher and their classmates. They must be cooperative and follow my instructions at all times. I am very strict about the rules. If students choose to break rules, they will face consequences, including notes or phone calls home. Please help by discussing good behavior with your child on a regular basis. · Internet Resources – You can keep in touch with me and stay updated on classroom activities, homework assignments, projects and important dates by accessing my Wiki page online. The Wiki page can be found at the web addresshttp://r-cohen.wikispaces.com/. You can also find me on Twitter, where my username is @RCohen42. You can view my Twitter feed at any time, and if you sign up to “follow” me on Twitter, you can receive important updates and reminders directly to your mobile phone. Please feel free to contact me any time by calling the office at 718-965-1190. I will return your message as soon as possible. You can also send a note to school with your child (in English or Spanish), or send an email to rcohen42@schools.nyc.gov.
